Yr Asyn a fu Farw / The Ass did Die
Alaw/Melody - Tradd./Trad.
Geiriau/Words - Tradd./Trad. + Ben Cybi Williams

Yr asyn a fu farw wrth gario glo i´r Fflint

enillodd mewn saith mlynedd dros bedwar ugain punt,

yr asyn a fu farw, gorweddai yn y baw,

a Jac a’i holl gyfeillion yn crynnu yn eu braw

yr asyn a fu farw, gorweddai’n ddistaw bach,

i’r byd a’i holl helyntion roedd wedi canu’n iach,

yr asyn a fu farw ´rol iddo golli´i wynt

a son a fydd amdano tra byddo mul yn Fflint

a Jac o´r Fotty Dirion aeth ati i gladdu’r mul,

fe fwriodd arno gerrig a thipyn bach o bridd

a Jac a aeth i weddi a honno’n weddi dlawd

a’r dagrau oedd yn powlio wrth gladdu mul ei frawd

yr asyn a fu farw, fu’n chwith trwy gwlad a thre

ni cheir mo’r penwaig gleision na’r cocos chwaith i de

yr asyn a fu farw rhown iddo gyfiawn glod

ni fu hen ful gonestach yn troedio dan y rhod

the ass did die whilst carrying coal to Flint

he won in seven years over four score pounds,

the ass did die, he lay in the dirt

and Jack and all his friends were shaking in their fright

the ass did die, he lay quietly

to the world and all it’s worries he had bid farewell,

the ass did die after having lost his breath

and there will be talk of him whilst there is a mule in Flint

and Jack from Foty Dirion went forth to bury the mule

he cast upon him rocks and a little bit of soil

and Jack went into prayer, and it was a poor prayer

and the tears they were bawling as he was burying his brother’s mule

the ass did die, he’ll be missed through countryside and town

we shan’t have the blue herring not the cockles for tea

the ass did die - let’s sing his rightful praise,

not a more honest mule did ever stroll under the heavens
